Why AI Is The Future Of Cybersecurity

Tuesday, July 30, 2019

Artificial Intelligence was recently considered an option for cybersecurity, thwarting data breaches and fraud attempts, but now it is not just an option, but a necessity. Prior to AI, prevention systems would depend on sets of rules to analyse transactions which relied heavily on historical data. AI can be used to continually scan for potential threat transactions and decrease the response time when defending against attempted breaches.

Statistically, breach attempts are increasing as digital businesses grow, making cybersecurity a top priority. Capgemini Research Institute surveyed 850 senior executives across seven industries and have compiled a report that has results showing the majority of enterprises, say they cannot detect breach attempts today, without the use of AI technologies. Louis Columbus, a contributor for Forbes, explains the findings from this report.

Sizing Up The Security Spectrum

Tuesday, March 28, 2017

Cam Wayland recently participated in an ARN roundtable discussion with a variety of vendors to explore the Security Spectrum and where the channel can really play a role. The discussions that were held were informative and productive in fleshing out what the security market and issues are looking like for 2017 and beyond.

It seems that while the security market has been big for some time, there really is no sign of the growth and spread of this market slowing down. Findings suggest that spending is expected to continue to increase in the coming 5 years and that Australia is currently the number 1 country globally for cyber security breaches. Discussions found that companies of all sizes and now also individuals are at risk of security breaches. Companies don’t want the public exposure and humiliation of having their Security breached and individuals don’t want to have their personal data and photos (for example) taken from them in a ransomware attack. This all means that we need a vast range of Security solutions to cater to both ends of the market, and all that lies in between. ...Read More

The Evolution of the Ransomware Business Model

Thursday, March 31, 2016

Author: Cam Wayland
Ransomware attacks are one thing that I have started to see and hear more and more of lately. This type of malicious software, designed to block access to a computer system until a sum of money (ransom) is paid, is wreaking havoc for partners and their customers.

Recently I was trying to get hold of a colleague at an SMB focused reseller. He was however flat out restoring or rebuilding desktops & servers, and generally fixing a number of Ransomware incidents at several of his client sites. This piqued my interest and led me to ask a range of questions. How did these clients get infected? Did they pay the ransom and if so how much? Did it work? Is Ransomware on the increase, and can you prevent an attack, or at worst limit the damage?
